Felix the Cat is a cartoon character created in the silent-film era. The history of Felix the cat began in 1919 and this mischievous feline cartoon character has kept generations entertained to the present day. Felix, created by Otto Messmer for Pat Sullivan's Studio, New York, made his first appearance in a short production called Feline Follies. The production was part of a Paramount Magazine serial release to Paramount-Publix Theatres in November 1919. Later Felix the Cat became televisions first animated superstar.The wild, witty cartoons made during this period included such classics as Felix in Hollywood (1923), Felix Switches Witches (1927), and Comicalamities (1928). They were released by Paramount Pictures (1919-21), M. J. Winkler (1922-25), Educational Pictures (1925-28), First National (1928-29), and Copley Pictures (1929-31).
